The La Grange Police Department Citizen Police Academy was started in 1999 by
Police Chief Jackie Skelton. It was created with the purpose of providing enough
information to the citizens of our community so that they can make an informed
judgement about the police department and police activity. Individuals attending
our Academy are given the opportunity to learn why police are not able to do
certain things within law enforcement. Class instruction is intended to increase
officers' awareness to dispel suspicion and misconceptions, and to increase police
community rapport.

The Department in turn becomes more aware of the feelings and concerns of the
community from the individuals attending the course through their interaction and
input.
