The La Grange Police Department is currently taking applications for the next Citizens Police Academy Course. The course is a window into the operations of the La Grange Police Department for citizens who are interested in how their police department serves their community. The course includes information on state laws, local ordinances, police procedures, special units, court systems and proceedings, and the cooperative efforts with other city departments such as Emergency Management, the Fire Department and EMS. Other cooperating agencies are represented by presentations from the Texas Rangers, Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission, Constable’s Office and Texas Game Warden.
The goal of the course is to create a better understanding of what the police can do and why they do things, to foster better cooperation and communication with the community, and offer volunteer opportunities to those who attend the course. The course is approximately 12 weeks long and meets one night per week on Tuesday.
Those who attend the course are eligible to join the La Grange Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, which organizes volunteer activities through the Police Department. These activities include assisting with parades and major events, the Citizens on Patrol program, and assisting with many projects.
Join us in serving the community.
