It’s hip to be on the Square.
La Grange is known as the Best Little Town in Texas. As a Texas Main Street city and the seat of Fayette County, it doesn't take long to see why. When you enter historic downtown La Grange, you’re taking a journey into charming architecture and rich heritage that has attracted visitors worldwide. The Fayette County Courthouse Square is the perfect place to take a stroll through beautifully maintained historic buildings, shop in a boutique or specialty shop, relax with a glass of wine or cup of coffee and enjoy a meal in one of our wonderful local restaurants.
As you stroll the Square you will discover the largest eclectic art collection in Texas, a premiere gourmet kitchen store that rivals anything in any big city, a coffee roastery, a beautiful art museum full of quilted masterpieces, antiques, clothing, home décor, great BBQ, local wine, handmade jewelry, kolaches, custom clothing, gourmet cooking classes, a year-round farmer’s market, numerous downtown festivals and more all surrounding a beautifully restored courthouse built in 1891.
“Downtown provides a unique experience that gives both residents and visitors a sense of place, showcasing the heritage and personality of La Grange. The Square is the thriving core of the community.”
Stacey Norris, Community Development Director
Downtown is an important economic driver for the community as a whole and a series of tools are in place to help preserve its unique character while supporting new business and development. The Fayette County Courthouse Square is both a local historic district and a historic district on the National Register; the latter offers the opportunity for use of both the state and federal historic tax incentive programs. Additionally, the EDC offers façade, paint and sign grants as well as other local incentives to support small businesses.
