2010 Texas Reading Club at the Fayette Public Library

 

What is the Texas Reading Club?

A self-paced summer reading program that promotes reading as a fun activity and encourages kids to use library resources.

 

Who can join?  

Kids of all ages, from preschool to high school.

 

How much does it cost?

It's FREE!  All you need is a library card -- and cards are free, too!

 

How do I get a library card?

Visit the library and fill out an application.  Bring a parent, because we need their signature.  We also need proof of your address -- your report card, Mom's driver's license, or something like that.

 

When does the reading club start?

June 8.  You can stop by the library then, or any time after that.  You'll get a book bag and reading club packet with all the details.

 

How does it work?

Visit the library to check out books.  Read what interests you.  Keep a reading log.  That's it!  You can log in once a day to choose a prize from the treasure box.  Each week has a different theme.

 

Is this a reading contest?

No.  You get to set your own goal.  One big, fat book?  One hundred skinny books?  You decide. 

 

Any special events?

Yes!  June 8   – Clown Bonzo Crunch from Ringling Brothers Circus, program & story time.

         June 12 – Wildlife & Exotic Animal Program.

       June 16 -- Story time with musical guest Dick Smith on the piano.

         June 23 -- Book Bash Reading Program by professional storyteller.

         June 30 – La Grange Volunteer Fire Department and the BIG RED FIRE TRUCK.

         July 7     – John O’Bryant “The Magic Dork” magician.

         July 14   – Wildlife & Exotic Animal Program.

         July 21   – Cowboy Sing along and story time with Ballan Keen.

         July 29   – Swimming Pool party

         Feature length movies will be shown on some Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.

When does the reading club end?

July 25 is the last day to log books.  And, of course, our “grand finale” pool party on July 29!
